Saturday 17th March. Junk Modelling

Today we focused on junk modelling. From our large supply of recycled materials, we encouraged the children to make heads for a totem pole. There was sticking, painting, creating and playing and a wonderful array of heads emerged.

Saturday 10th March. Printmaking

Today we experimented with printmaking. We used rollers, sponges, stensils, cut-outs and found objects and discovered what sort of marks they made. Then we all worked together to create a huge picture of Dartmoor, complete with the river Dart, Dartmoor ponies, sheep, granite Tors and a castle. Image to follow soon…..

Clay Day – 3rd March

Today we worked with clay, the session was led by local potter Sarah Whittington, who demonstrated how to make pinch pots and coil pots. The children really enjoyed this one and some wonderful and creative pieces were made.

Cave Art

This creative piece of cave art was made by rolling the clay, then moulding pipe cleaners into shape and pushing them into the clay tile. Paint was then sponged on, and finally the detail was highlighted with black paint. Well done Elliot.

Coil pots

Emma and Sophie made these pots with dozens of pieces of coiled clay, as seen below. The top was then smoothed, and when dry they will retain the beautiful coil pattern on the underside. Good work girls.

Phoebe and Lexi’s puppets

Phobe helped to make the Highway Rat’s horse, and then got involved in making the Duck, who was the heroine of the puppet show. Lexi made a lovely Rabbit puppet and then a squirrel, with a ballerina skirt on.

Elliot’s marching ants

Elliot used a great deal of artistic skill and imagination to produce a row of marching ants that could move independently giving the illusion of movement
